XÀBIA’S POPULATION CLIMBS ABOVE 30,000 FOR FIRST TIME IN TEN YEARS

The number of foreigners registered in the town represents 46.7% of the total population.

Spain’s National Institute of Statistics (INE) has updated its population data for municipalities which shows that, as of January 1st 2023, the number of people registered as living in Xàbia rose to 30,249, the first time it has risen above the 30,000 mark since 2013.

The statistics also show that the number of foreigners registered in the town is 14,126, which is 46.7% of the total population, of which British immigrants are the clear dominant nationality, well ahead of Germans and Colombians in second and third place respectively.

For the Marina Alta region as a whole, the total population rose by around 3.5% to 192,870, of which 72,580 (37.6%) are foreigners. There are six municipalities in the Marina Alta where foreigners actually outnumber the locals: Lliber (64.2%), El Poble Nou de Benitatxell (62.4%), Alcalalí (57.8%), Teulada-Moraira (56.5%), Murla (52.3%) and Calp (52.2%). For the record, foreigners resident in Dénia accounts for 26.9% of its total population of 45,893.
