Xàbia’s historic centre will be illuminated by hundreds of candles on Friday night
The event will be part of the celebrations marking the feast day of San Bartolomé.
The parish of San Bartolome has got together with the Xàbia Històrica business association and the local council to organise the first ever “Night of Candles” in the historic centre of the town this Friday 23rd August, a night when the streets surrounding the fortress-church will be lit up with hundreds of candles to celebrate San Bartolomé.
From 8.00pm, the street lighting in Calle San Bartolomé, Calle San Buenaventura, Plaza Celestino Pons, Plaza de la Iglesia and Carrer Mayor from Plaza del Baix to Calle Primicias will be switched off and lit instead by hundreds of candles. In addition, the church, the town hall, the municipal museum, Casa Primicias, Casa Bover and the Central Cinema will also turn off the light to be lit only by candles.
The experience will be enlivened by music from Summer Trio and Marinae Ensemble whilst the Soler Blasco Museum will be open until midnight as well as some shops and the indoor market. In addition, the parish will be holding a vigil at 8.45pm with adoration before the Blessed Sacrament with the Catholic youth movement Hakuna.
The feast day of San Bartolomé (Saint Bartholomew), one of the twelve apostles of Jesus, is on Saturday 24th August and the parish has organised a series of events to celebrate, including a special mass, a conference, and the inauguration of the church museum.
