Xàbia unanimously approves the transfer of three plots to Valencia for social housing

The five groups with municipal representation approve their representatives for the advisory bodies for citizen participation.

The plenary session of the Xàbia Town Hall has unanimously approved the transfer of three plots to the regional government to allocate them for the construction of official protected social housing.

The plots are located in the zone of Pou del Moro (next to CEIP Trenc d’Alba) and councillor Pere Sapena (Town Planning) explained that the space will enough the construction of 65 homes of about 100 square meters each.

All party representatives of the council voted in favour of a motion presented by Compromís on equality and the fight against gender violence – with the exception of the Vox councillor who voted against it. The motion proposed an amendment in which a minute of silence would be held at the beginning of the plenary session every time a death from domestic violence occurred.

However, all partied voted to leave another proposal presented by Compromís on the table, a motion in which the local council was urged to subscribe to a relationship with the magazines ‘Cavall Fort’, ‘Camacuc’, ‘Enderrock’, ‘El Temps’ and ‘Revista Llengua Nacional’. Only ‘Camacuc’ and ‘El Temps’ are published in the Comunidad Valenciana.

The proposal was amended by the PSOE-PSPV, who requested that if the council had to subscribe to some magazines in the Valencian language, they should be published in the Comunidad Valenciana. Councillor Jose Vicent Miralles said that “it allows us to reinforce our own cultural industry and we help to maintain of jobs in the sector”.

Councillor Mavi Perez (Culture) responded that she had met with the director of the Municipal Library who confirmed that the local council already subscribes to the weekly magazine ‘El Temps’ and confirmed that the library will publishers for copies of the other magazines to consider possible subscription.

The matter would be further debated at the upcoming Culture Commission.

Creation of the Consultative Councils

The plenary session approved the representatives of the five parties with municipal representation on the different Consultative Councils through which citizen participation will be channeled. To be constituted soon, they are the Town Planning and Environment Council, the Tourism Council, the Sports Council, the Agricultural Council and the Water Observatory.

Finally, a modification of the municipal swimming pool project was approved, which increases to total cost by 102,000 euros whilst the status of “child-friendly municipality” was renewed, a decision which prompted Carme Catalá (Compromís) to ask about the state of the playgrounds in the town, to which mayoress Rosa Cardona responded that the new government will work to make all parks and green areas habitable.
