The Department of Sports is taking another step in its commitment to promote inclusive sport this week by marking the UN’s International Day of People with Disabilities, which falls on Friday 3rd December, with a programme of several visibility and awareness actions.

Councillor Alberto Tur (Sports) explained that inclusive sports activities will be carried out throughout the week in the municipality’s educational centres during school hours and in coordination with the schools so that it reaches everyone.

The campaign will be developed in two phases for COVID security and, this week, it will arrive at CEIP Graüll, CEIP Arenal and IES Number 1, while the rest of the centres will participate after the Christmas holidays.

On Thursday 2nd December, a round table on “Diversity and Sports” has been scheduled at 7.30 pm in the multipurpose room of IES Number 1 in which Miquel Ivars (Director of the Raquel Payà school), Jimmy Higueras (Associació Condenados al Bordillo), and Dora Roselló (athlete) will participate, with the sports councillor acting as moderator.

One of the most lovingly prepared actions is a video for social networks starring local athletes and which will be launched on Friday 3rd December, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Xàbia has been betting on sport for several years as a tool for inclusion and improvement. The council has promoted different adapted sports clinics and even hosted a conference on adapted sports organized jointly with the Cent Anys Levante Unión Deportiva Foundation.

This year these specific initiatives have taken definitive shape with the opening of the Supera’t municipal sports school specifically designed for disabled people who want to carry out personalized sports physical activity supervised by qualified personnel.
