The plenary session of Xàbia Council has agreed to start an analysis of the situation of the drainage and sewer network in the town, following a motion presented by the PP on the problems caused by wet wipes being disposed improperly down the toilet.

The meeting have agreed that, given the complexity of the challenges surrounding the network, the best way to move forward was to leave the proposal on the table and raise a more general compromise that is endorsed by all the political parties in Xàbia.

Therefore, a full study of the network and its possible shortcomings will be sought, setting out a strategy with all the actions that can be carried out by the municipality in order to improve its management. This will be transferred to the urban planning and works study committee and will also seek the involvement of the municipal water company AMJASA.

The sewerage and drainage network treatment plant (EDAM) in Xàbia is managed by a private company under contract promoted by the Public Entity of Wastewater Drainage of the Comunidad Valenciana (EPSAR-CV) which expires in 2023.

The meeting also saw all party representatives unanimously agree to re-select Gabriel Sapena Salines as the town’s Justice of the Peace, meaning that he will serve a fourth term in the position, charged with instructing civil and criminal matters of little gravity where there is no judge available.

Another agreement that was approved was the transfer of the right of first refusal and retraction of the Generalitat Valenciana, which will allow Xàbia Council to hold preferential acquisition rights when acquiring homes and thus power for social rent.
