XÀBIA SELECTED FOR LAUNCH OF AFFORDABLE HOUSE SCHEME IN COMUNIDAD VALENCIANA

The regional government will build 64 affordable houses in the town.

A recent survey published by idealista.com confirmed that Xàbia is one of the most expensive places to buy a property in the Marina Alta, making it extremely difficult for local people to find somewhere to live in the town, often forcing them to move away to find more affordable accommodation.

Over the past few months, there has been a lot of talk from local and regional authorities about providing such accommodation and this week Xàbia mayor Rosa Cardona and the councillor responsible for Housing, Enrique Escrivà, participated in a special presentation of the PLAN VIU COMUNITAT VALENCIANA given by the Generalitat Valenciana, an initiative to promote the construction of some 10,000 protected homes aimed at families at young people in the region which will be built on public land and with public-private collaboration.

Xàbia has been selected as one of the municipalities in which the first 685 of these homes will be built, with the Generalitat developing 64 houses on two pieces of land that were provided by the local council last year.

The mayor expressed her gratitude that the Generalitat has selected Xàbia to start this initiative since the town “needs accessible housing so that young people can start to plan for the future in their own municipality”. The housing councillor added that this is “just the starting point” of a project that will see Xàbia – with the help of the Generalitat Valenciana – able to offer public housing to help the Department of Social Services to address the emergency housing situations that occur almost weekly in the town.
