26-Hola Nadal

Friday 26th November 2021 – PRESS RELEASE with Mike Smith

Xàbia Council has presented details of the festive campaign “Hola Nadal” – “Hello Christmas” – which will take place over the early December long weekend which have been organised by the Department of Economic Development and Commerce in collaboration with the trade associations in the municipality.

Councillor Marta Bañuls spoke of the enthusiasm to offer this special event after last year’s enforced break due to the pandemic. “We are excited to be able to reschedule activities, to give crafts people their space and, of course, to be able to welcome Christmas again in a festive way, encouraging people to go out and bring joy back to our streets”.

Bañul was joined by councillor Susana Ern (Fairs and Markets) in a press conference to give details of this popular event that will be taking place between Saturday 4th December and Wednesday 8th December inclusive.

Xàbia Historica
Saturday 4th December & Sunday 5th December

The first half of this long weekend will be concentrated in the historic centre of Xàbia where a craft fair will be open in the church square and the adjacent Plaza Celestino Pons, the craft stalls being complemented by those manned by social and charity organisations such as Cruz Roja, Aspanion, Amunt Contra el Cáncer and Amas de Casa. As a novelty, some of the local businesses will be invited to set up their own space in the fair.

In addition, there will be activities for all, especially the younger members of the community “who are the ones who look forward to Christmas with the most enthusiasm,” said Bañuls. There will be a children’s play area in the church square over the two days, blues music provided by the Mingo Balaguer Band on Saturday 4th at 7.30pm, and the following day at 12 noon there will be a performance by singer Dani Miguel, so loved by children. Both shows will be in the Placeta Convent.

Duanes de la Mar (Port)
Monday 6th December to Wednesday 8th December

On Monday 8th December, the activity moves down to the sea where a craft fair will be installed between the promenade and Avenida Jaume I, where there will also be a children’s play area in the morning and afternoon.

The programme also features music from the lively Canta Canalla, who will be offering a performance for all the family to dance to, taking place on Wednesday 8th December at 12 noon on the promenade in front of Plaza de la Comadrona Maruja Varó.

The Council has promised that festive lighting and the usual Christmas decorations such as the trees will be installed in the three urban centres ready for the festive run.

Bañuls said that she hopes that the programme is “a stimulating stimulus for the urban centres and to start the Christmas campaign”. She called on businesses to “make their premises beautiful to give a lot of life and joy to Xàbia”.

She also encouraged residents to take the opportunity to bring forward their Christmas shopping “that if they do so in local shops, all the better” whilst also enjoying the atmosphere, the local hospitality and social life in the public spaces.
