On Sunday 27th February, Xàbia will kick off one of the most popular sporting events in the Marina Alta. The Circuit a Peu – a road running season – is a classic for athletics in the region and will begin with the most beloved races: La Volta a Peu de Xàbia which celebrates its 33rd edition this year.

The Club d’Aletisme Llebeig has presented details of the race which kicks off the season which has been able to return this year after having only been able to hold two races in 2020 before the pandemic took hold and not taking place at all in 2021.

The route is the same as in recent years, a ten kilometre race that runs almost entirely along the coast on flat land, which is an incentive both for the views and for the facilities. The start and finish will be at the Palau d’Esports Municipal in the port. The reina category will start at 10.00am whilst shorter races for the younger athletes will start at 12 noon.

Club president Madelane Powell explained that those who registered in 2020 have maintained their interest in participating in the event and that there are already a thousand runners to which those who sign up only for the Xàbia event will be added. Registration can be done online at www.somesport.com. Thus, it will be a massive competition that will be marked by the joy of the event returning and the atmosphere generated by the camaraderie and friendship with which this veteran circuit experiences.

Powell also confirmed that the race will maintain the same line of sustainability with which the club has been working for years, with the objective of zero plastic, recyclable packaging and using local products.

Both councillor Alberto Tur (Sports) and mayor José Chulvi thanks the athletics club for its continued effort in organization which has allowed this event to be consolidated and become on of the main benchmarks of the regional circuit. They also thanked the security forces and the volunteers who will ensure the safety of the event.

In addition, the mayor valued what it meant to be able to recover all these sporting events after the pandemic, by the athletes themselves and by the people they draw as spectators. In addition, they provide an injection for the service sector of the municipality during the low season.

For many years, you’ve told us how much you love what we’re doing and some of you have even asked for ways to say thanks. For us, there really is nothing easier to show someone how much you appreciate their efforts than buying them a beer (or a wine; or even a coffee) – it’s so simple.
