Xàbia Council plans to establish a fee for parking during the summer months in the coves of Portitxol (Carrer de la Barraca) and La Granadella (Carrer del Pic Tort) within the actions included in the Comprehensive Coastal Management Plan.

Both coves have limited access to a single road and assume a large and growing pressure from visitors, especially during the high season, which makes parking insufficient and traffic flow complicated.

For this reason, and as a step prior to its final application, the local government has opened a public consultation through the municipal website to gather the opinion of residents and citizens in general.

NOTE: The form is in Castellano and Valenciana only. However, the translations for the four questions are as follows:

1) Do you think it is appropriate for the council to organize the parking of vehicles in the coves of Portitxol and Granadella?

2) Do you think it is appropriate for the council to charge a fee for those users who park their vehicles in the coves of Portitxol and Granadella?

3) Do you think that the council should provide this service as a seasonal car park, aimed at these very touristy areas?

4) What alternative solutions would you propose?

The options are: SI (Yes), NO (No), and TAL VEZ (Maybe).

The rate will be only for summer and will be unique per day. Councilor for the Environment and Beaches, Toni Miragall, explained that the implementation of the parking fee “aims to improve road safety in the coves, reduce the impact of visitors on the environment and overnight stays in the cove“. The charge will also help meet the costs involved in access control, so the municipal intention is that managing this kind of blue zone is linked to the contract for such a regulatory policy.
