Xàbia marks World Children’s Day this weekend
There will be workshops, games, zip line, climbing wall, and the reading of a manifesto.
This weekend, Xàbia will be commemorating the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child with a special day full of fun and games whilst also learning about the importance of children’s rights.
It was on November 20, 1989 when the text that includes the rights of children and adolescents was agreed, becoming law in 1990. These articles reflect the commitment to protect the little ones so that they have a dignified and happy life, in which they can develop without obstacles and become full people.
As a child-friendly city, Xàbia reinforces this commitment, working day by day so that our children and adolescents grow up with everything they need, thus also betting on the future of our community.
The special program will begin on Friday, November 15 at 6:00 p.m. at Play Jove with the workshop “Fem Dolços” (sweet making) for those over 12 years old.
On Saturday 16 November, activities will continue at the Punt Cívic Arenal, from 10.30am to 12.30pm, with a recycled art workshop and cooperative games. At the same time, in the Plaza de la Constitución, from 10.00am to 13.30pm, children and young people will be able to participate in various workshops organised by the Children’s Council, focusing on the declaration of rights and proposals to make Xàbia an increasingly better place for children and adolescents. During this day there will also be a “fireta” in which, by overcoming different tests, participants will be able to win popcorn as a prize.
In addition, a wide variety of activities will be offered: zip line, climbing wall, recycling workshops, face painting and other recreational activities. At midday one of the most significant moments of the day will take place: the reading of the manifesto in favour of the rights of children and adolescents.
This year, Civil Protection and the canine unit of the Policía Local, Kosmo and Khalan, will be helping in the areas affected by the DANA, so they will not be able to be there. In recognition of their great work, an information stand has been set up to publicise their actions in the affected areas and receive messages of encouragement and gratitude from attendees, which will then be delivered to the aid teams.
There will also be Cruz Roja volunteers who will also explain to the little ones the great work they are doing in the most affected areas and will directly transmit all the messages of encouragement they receive to all the volunteers who are helping in Valencia.
Raquel Violero, the councillor responsible for Children and Youth, has expressed that this date is very special for Xàbia due to the commitment of the town hall to the rights of children. This year, in addition, she wanted to take the opportunity to remember the effort and commitment of all those who are on the front line helping those affected by the DANA. Violero invites all children and young people from Xàbia to join and enjoy this day of activities, where they will be able to learn about their rights and learn in an atmosphere of camaraderie and fun.
