Xàbia launches new social employment plan with 43 vacancies

Applications for these 10-month contracts can be submitted from Monday 23rd January.

Xàbia Council has launched a new social employment plan, the fourth of the current legislature, which will be offering 43 positions, half of which will be for labouring positions with various tasks, four for management positions with which multifunctional brigades which will be created to work on the prevention of forest fires and the maintenance of municipal public spaces and buildings, 13 positions as caretakers and security guards, and four cleaning positions in municipal buildings.

The contracts are offered for the entire year and applications can be submitted from Monday 23rd via the registry at the Oficina de Atención al Ciudadano (OAC) at Portal del Clot or via the council’s electronic office. The application will remain open until Friday 17th February.

Mayor José Chulvi explained that around 4 million euros has been invested in social employment initiatives during the current legislature, offering 171 contracts which not only improves the economic and emotional status of the worker and his family but also for the population of the town, since they are workers who carry out tasks which improve the image of the town, work on the prevention of forest fires and provide support to the resident.

He also highlighted the administrative effort that has been made so that the 2023 edition of the social employment plan is available as soon as possible so that workers have longer contracts (It is expected that they will be for ten months.)

Both the mayor and the councillor for Finance and Economic Development, Ximo Segarra, highlighted the resources that Xàbia Council has dedicated to these social support policies as well as the response measures to the economic crisis due to the increase in the cost of living. This has been maintained alongside the removal of the rubbish tax, municipal nursery charges and opening licences for 2023 as well as the reduction in IBI charges by 17% and the campaigns to promote local consumption and support for companies in addition to the reinforcement of funding for Social Services. In total, the council has dedicated around 10 million euros to these initiatives.

In addition to the social employment plan, Xàbia is also benefiting from regional employment initiatives to offer more jobs to more technical profiles and to young people. The councillor for Personnel, Pepa Gisbert, explained that, during 2022, Xàbia Council was able to contract 91 people through the municipal and regional initiatives.

She explained that the requirements to apply for one of the 43 vacancies on offer in the current employment social plan: the applicant must have been registered with the public employment service for a minimum of one month, they should not be receiving any benefits of more than 500 euros, they must be Spanish or of any nationality that benefits from free movement of workers, and for all positions (except the labouring ones), a driving license is required.

In addition, the successful applicant will be selected based on having an important social dimension through a rating system. The time spent unemployed, being part of a family unit benefiting from emergency aid from Social Service, having a large family or having a co-habiting family that is also unemployment, having a mortgage or paying rent in Xàbia, having a single-parent family or a dependent family member, as well as experience in similar positions, will all be considered.
