Xàbia has launched a new campaign – “¡NO ES EL LUGAR!” – in which it will be attempting to promote responsible pet ownership and raise awareness about the associated problems, such as fouling on public spaces and pavements.

Market day was selected as the ideal day to launch an interactive street marketing campaign with two performers using toy dogs in a different way to attract attention and making more visible the problems that can arise if there is no responsibility for pets and their actions.

“!No Es El Lugar¡” is the slogan – it is also in English: “It is not the place!” – through which the town hall wants to appeal for more responsibility from pet owners, emphasizing that the town’s buildings and streets are not the place to take them to do their needs and that, should the animals end of fouling these places, it is the owner’s obligation to pick it up and deposit it responsibly.

The councillor responsible for Services, Kika Mata, explained that the campaign will run throughout the year and will include various initiatives from street marketing to promotion on social media, mobile information points, interactions with pet owners, as well as education talks for children.

She added that she was confident that this campaign will have a positive impact and that awareness and education will help people become responsible owners of their pets and thereby reduce waste and improve animal welfare.
