Xàbia Juan Ayuso claims second place in the Volta a Catalunya after three stages

Xàbia cyclist, Juan Ayuso, is taking in the Volta a Catalunya this week and is already leaving his mark on the long journey he is following in professional cycling. After the third stage, Ayuso was placed second in the General Ranking and first in the Best Young category, taking the white jersey.

This Wednesday’s stage had its finish-line in the ski resort of La Molina and Ayuso came in second after a sprint with Nairo Quintana and Sergio Andrés Higuita. This is how the official Facebook page of the Volta a Catalunya picked up that moment (commentary in English).

In a statement on the Team Emirates website, Ayuso says that “it was difficult to clear on the last climb because there was a strong headwind, but I think O’Connor timed it well, so I congratulate him for pulling away. I tried two or three times but couldn’t open a gap, too bad we couldn’t close it in the final, but we were close. Tomorrow will be another tough day, but my legs are fine, so we’ll have another chance“.
