Xàbia Jazz 2024 line-up features Paquito Rivera, Marc Copland Quartet and Nina Dinamita & Swing Milicia

The popular music festival will be held between August 3rd and 5th and is completely free.


The popular Xàbia Jazz international music festival returns at the beginning of August with an extraordinary line-up featuring Paquito de Rivera, Marc Copland Quartet and Nina Dinamita & Swing Milicia.

Mayor Rosa Cardona and the councillor responsible for Culture, Mavi Pérez (CPJ) got together with cultural technical staff member Irene Buigues to present details of the 22nd edition of the music festival which will be held between Saturday 3rd August and Monday 5th August at 10.30pm on the Plaza de la Constitución and will be completely free to attend.

The festival will open on Saturday 3rd August with the Paquito de Rivera Quintet. Paquito de Rivera, winner of 16 Grammy Awards, was the founder of the innovative musical group ‘Ikare’ together with his great friend Chucho Valdés, who played Xàbia Jazz in 2022. The 76-year-old musician and arranger is passionate about both jazz and classical music, becoming one of the leading figures of Afro-Cuban music and modern Latin Jazz standards. He will be accompanied by Pepe Rivero on piano, Reinier Elizarde “El Negrón” on double bass, Yuvisney Aguilar on percussion and Sebastián Laverde on vibraphone.

On Sunday 4th August, it will be the turn of the Marc Copland Quartet to take the stage. A roving ambassador of intelligent, complex and totally engaging improvised music in the jazz world, H¡his music stands out for its innovative harmonic language, while being easily accessible to viewers. He is the most prolific jazz pianist of the millennium, with 35 record releases. In this concert, he will be joined by Belgian-American saxophonist Robin Verheyen, bassist Drew Gress and drummer Fabrice Moureau, together forming a dynamic and harmonious team that will surely captivate the festival audience.

The festival will close on Monday 5th August with Nina Dinamita & La Swing Milicia, a jazz band that has emerged from the “Sedajazz” collective and has been inspired by great female figures who transgress gender roles such as Nina Simone or Rosario Sánchez Mora “La Dinamitera”. The band is formed by singer Claudia Ferrández with Lucía Bisquert on trombone, Rosana Díaz on sax, Adriano Tortora on piano, Tico Porcar on drums, and Borja Flores on double bass.
