On Thursday 1st February and Friday 2nd February, Xàbia Council will be hosting a session of the Spanish Forum for Prevention and Urban Security (FEPSU), of which Xàbia is a part, which will focus on the debate on police presence at large events in order to share practical experiences and put them in common between the different members of this forum.

The meeting will be held at the Parador Nacional de Turismo de Xàbia and will have speakers from experts in this type of events, since in smaller or larger sizes in all towns and municipalities there are massive congregations of people and the security forces must learn to organize and manage them in the best way possible.

The chief inspector of the Policía Local de Xàbia, José Antonio Monfort explained that “this type of event entails greater or lesser complexity, which is why it is important to hold conferences like this one to learn about the intervention methodologies of the different organizations to put them into practice so that we can value and respond to the problems of coexistence and security in our cities”.

Monfort confirmed that the president of the Forum and general director of the Madrid Municipal Police, Pablo Enrique Rodríguez, along with other members of other local police forces from Teruel, Terrasa, Barcelona and Ponferrada, have already confirmed their attendance at the event as well as the director of Prevention Services of Barcelona City Council, Àngels Vila, the Deputy Chief Operational Inspector of the Emergency and Proximity Reinforcement Unit, Operational Resources and Support Division of the Barcelona Urban Guard, Valeriano Lucas Casado; the head of the Coexistence and Civility Incident Management Office of the L’Hospitalet de Llobregat City Council, Manuel Martínez Vargas; the management technique in the Prevention, Coexistence and Civility Section of l’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Laura Gavilán Tomás; the Coordinator of Administration and Transversal Services of the Department of the Interior of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Toni Vegas López.

Representatives of the local police forces of La Marina Alta and La Safor will also participate, including Gandía (José Vicente Espasa), Dénia (José Vicente Estruch Sabater), Benissa (Pedro Cobos Campos), Mutxamel (Carlos Pomares), Altea (Vicent Soler), Benitatxell (José Francisco Mayans Ferrer), Pego (Santiago Montero), Calp (Juan Antonio Sánchez), Teulada (Ana García Buigues), Ondara (Desiré Torres Molina and Antonio Galiano Viciano) as well as the mayors and respective councillors from neighboring towns.

The councillor responsible for Security and Citizen Protection, Juan Ortolá, highlighted the fact that Xàbia is hosting one of the FEPSU work sessions and wanted to thank the executive secretary of the forum for choosing the town. “Our mayor, the project coordinator and town council have worked very intensely to make the conference a success and the attendees feel at home”, the mayor remarked.

Mayoress Rosa Cardona added that “an example of the continuous improvement of our police force is hosting these type of work sessions in order to learn new methodologies that they can apply in their daily lives.”
