XÀBIA HOSTS PROVINCIAL FESTIVAL OF PERFORMING ARTS
Throughout the month of October, Xàbia will be offering more theatre, concerts and exhibitions.
Xàbia Council has confirmed its cultural programme for October which will be headlined by the hosting of the Festival Provincial de Artes Escénicas – the provincial festival of performing arts – which features a series of performances funded by the Diputación de Alicante to support professional companies in the province related to the theatre and circus sector.
Starting this weekend, four stage performances have been organised, all but one in the open space next to the historic Ruirau d’Arnauda amongst the trees of the Parque Montaner above the main square in the town.
Saturday 17th October, 7.00pm – The festival kicks off with a dance performance entitled ’10 Sonetos’ in which two dancers and a musician weave a special show with the sonnets of 16th century Spanish poet Garcilaso de la Vega as the common thread.
Sunday 18th October, 12 noon – The circus comes to town with a show for all the family entitled ‘Emportats’ in which the company La Trócolo Circ will combine juggling, acrobatics and live music.
Saturday 24th October, 5.00pm – The clowns of Taranna Teatre will tell the story of Ferdinand the bull who didn’t like to attack but rather live in the countryside surrounded by flowers.
Sunday 25th October, 7.00pm – The venue changes to the Casa de la Cultura in Plaça del Baix in the heart of the historic centre for the performance of ‘Els Dies de la Nit’ by the Maror Produccions which will close this special performing arts festival.
All performances are free to the public but due to current health and safety protocols to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection, those interetsing in attending must reserve the place in advance by telephoning 965 79 43 44.
In addition to the performing arts festival, the municipal cultural programme Cultura a la Tardor, which is promoted by the Department of Culture, offers the following performances:
Friday 23rd October, 8.00pm – The Marina Alta group Jazzmatics will be offering a jazz take on popular tracks by artists such as Raimon, La Gossa Sorda and Aspencat in the Casa de la Cultura.
Friday 30th October, 9.00pm – The voices of Grup Polifònic Ars Nova will be performing a didactic recital of this late Middle Ages style of singing inside the historic church of San Bartolomé.
Saturday 31st October, 8.00pm – The Nits de Teatre season begins in the Casa de la Cultura which a fun take of politics entitled ‘En Pacte’ performed by the Bullanga Teatre.
In addition, the photographic exhibition festival ‘Fotografía Ojos Rojos’ continues with interesting displays by artists from across Spain in all the municipal exhibitions hall.
