Members of the Policía Local de Xàbia and Protección Civil Xàbia have deployed to assist emergency operations in Catarroja, a municipality some 8 kilometres south of the city of Valencia that was seriously affected by the heavy rains which caused serious flooding, leaving residents at risk and in urgent need of resources and support.

The team of around 30 officers and volunteer personnel have been working side by side with local emergency services, carrying out various tasks to ensure the well-being of residents whilst the municipal water company AMJASA has sent two tankers of potable water which has been distributed to cover the basis needs of residents.

The councillor responsible for Citizen Security, Juan Ortolà (CPJ), posted on social media that “Xàbia is making all our material and logistical resources such as bilge pumps available to the Valencian citizens to collaborate in the recovery and help restore normality as soon as possible”.

Meanwhile, the Cruz Roja Española has joined the call for assistance with not only logistical support and volunteer assistance on site, but also by collecting donations to be able to support the affected families. Each financial contribution will be used to cover the basic needs of those affected. To date, multiple teams have been deployed to offer more than 250 shelter places, as well as providing food, medical supplies and psychological support. In addition, the Red Cross and emergency teams continue to work on cleaning and restoring homes and infrastructure in the most affected areas, where the impact has left thousands of families in a critical situation.

One of the the most direct ways to donate is to make a bank transfer directly to the account that has been set up by the Cruz Roja for this emergency situation: ES44 0049 0001 5321 1002 2225 whilst donations can also be made via the BIZUM facility.

Donations can also be made via telephone using the free number 900 104 971 or by texting AYUDA to the appropriate number for the value of the donation. In addition, there is a special section on the website here to make donations. See the image below.
