Xàbia town hall has been preparing the details for the tender for the construction of a new bridge over the Gorgos river, extending Calle Genova so that it connects with Calle Manuel Bordes in the port to improve general circulation in the adjoining streets.
The project has several defined parameters: it will be a single-span bridge of pre-cast pre-stressed beams supported on reinforced concrete buttresses with two 3.5 metre wide lanes, two 3 metre pavements and a 2 metre cycle lane. It will be planned in such a way that it will connect naturally with Calle Génova at ground level and will minimally affect the riverbed. The construction phase will be organised in such a way that resident access to homes will not be affected.
The new bridge will provide a direct link to the port and allow the re-organization of traffic flow between the port zone and the Arenal, reducing traffic along the coastal road of Avenida Mediterraneana. At the other end of Calle Génova, a 50m stretch of undeveloped land currently prevents the completion of a direct link to the Arenal zone and a compulsory purchase order to acquire remains pending.
