Xàbia celebrates October 9 by delivering Vila de Xàbia awards to Esperanza Salvatierra, Pep Segarra and Centro Artístico Musical

There will also be cultural performances in the Historic Centre, Duanes and Arenal

The month of October arrives in Xàbia with an intense cultural and institutional agenda which will mark the celebration of October 9th, a special day for Valencian men and women, the ‘Día de la Comunitat Valenciana’.

The councillor responsible for Culture, Quico Moragues, has announced an attractive programme which is 100% free and which will bring together the performing arts, literature and music, with a special nod to children. And, as is tradition, the town hall will mark the celebration with the 26th edition of the ‘Vila de Xàbia’ municipal awards, which this year will honour the ‘Centro Artístico Musical de Xàbia’, Pep Segarra and Esperanza Salvatierra.

This institutional act will be taking place on Friday 7th October at 7.30pm in the Plaça de l’Eglèsia in the heart of the historic centre, an outdoors event so that all the winners can be accommodated, particularly those of the groups of CAM Xàbia – the band, the orchestra and the youth band – which will also be performing some musical pieces during the ceremony.

The cultural programme starts this Saturday 30th September at 8.00pm in the Casa de la Cultura which a presentation of the book “Estimat Amic” by Cristòfol Bisquert whilst at 5.30pm the following day – Saturday 1st October – there will be children’s theatre in the Casa de la Cultura with a special show “Paraules a les Butxaques” by the Companyia Los Combis, part of the ‘Festival Provincial de Artes Escénicas 2022’.

On Sunday 2nd October at 10.00pm in the Plaça de l’Esglèsia, the musicians and dancers of the Grup de Danses Portitxol will be performing a show that will combine dance with audiovisual presentations.

On Thursday 6th October at 8.00pm at the Casa de la Cultura, there will be a presentation of the gastronomic book “Cuineres del Territori” by Josep Bernabeu and María Tormo.

On Friday 7th October at 8.00pm on the Paseo del Tenista David Ferrer in the Arenal, there will be a circus show entitled “Fontanería, Circo y Poesía 2.0” performed by the Companyia Jacinto Sifon Fontana, another act which forms part of the ‘Festival Provincial de Artes Escénicas 2022’.

On Saturday 8th October at 9.30pm in the church of Sant Bertomeu in the heart of the historic centre, the youth band of CAM Xàbia will be performing a special concert to marking the October 9th celebrations.

On Sunday 9th October at 12 noon, the festive day will begin with energy and a lot of rhythm provided by ‘Ramonets’, who will be performing a fun rock and roll concert for the whole family on the Plaza Comare Maruja Varó in the port, opposite the beach of La Grava. Later in the day, at 5.30pm, there will be the first of two concerts by the Colla Portitxol as part of a cultural exchange campaign with Bellaguarda Tradicions Altea, with both groups performing together with dulzaina and drums whilst the second concert, at 8.00pm, will see the Grup Portitxol sharing the stage with La Socarrà from Xàtiva.

The October programme continues with the ‘Festival de Arts Escèniques’, sponsored by the provincial council, which will offer performances such as Musical Landscapes by Lolo García (Sunday 15th October at 8.00pm at the Casa de la Cultura), the Danza Rito by the Otradanza Company (Friday 21th October at 8.00pm at the Sala Polivalente at the Portal del Clot municipal offices, and the Teatro Señoras al Bingo, performed by Improvidencia on Saturday 22nd October at 8.00pm at the Casa de la Cultura.
