Tuesday 8th June 2021 – PRESS RELEASE with Mike Smith
Xàbia mayor José Chulvi and the regional secretary for Education and Sports, Vicent Marzá, have signed the collaboration agreement in which the Generalitat Valenciana undertakes to finance the municipal swimming pool of Xàbia.
According to the document – which was validated at the end of April and today has been signed electronically by the two public officials – the regional government will contribute a total of 3 million euros in three annual payments (2021: 1.5 million · 2022: 1.05 million · 2023: 450,000 euros) whilst the local council will be committed to completing the building project before November 30th 2023.
The council has already started the contract tender process for this long-awaited project and three construction companies have submitted bids.
The land on which the municipal swimming pool will be built is behind the municipal sports pavilion in Avenida del Furs, an area from which the paddle courts have already been removed and transferred to their new location next to the Mesquides football complex.
The work required for the indoor pool complex – over 3,000 square metres – has an estimated completion period of 742 days (just over 24 months). The enclosure will have two swimming pools and an activity room for gymnastics and fitness training, a three-row stand along one side as well as changing rooms suitable for competing teams and a small cafeteria.
