Xàbia aims for European funds to promote the transformation of the municipality
The local council aims to apply for EU funding that will cover 60% of the 15 million euro action plan.

The February Plenary Session of Xàbia Council has approved the Action Plan of the Urban Agenda of Xàbia, a strategic document that will serve as a roadmap for the sustainable development of the municipality and that will allow it to apply for European funding. Within this framework, the Integrated Action Plan (PAI) ‘ImpulXàbia: Roots of the Future’ has been developed, which specifies the key investments to transform Xàbia into a more sustainable and accessible town with actions to support the rehabilitation of historical heritage, sports infrastructure, digitalization and sustainability.
The project, which has already been presented, now depends on the approval of the Spanish Government in order to be able to access European funding through the FEDER-EDIL program, which would cover up to 60% of the total cost of the proposed actions. With a global budget of € 14,911,450.39, the rest of the funding is expected to come from the Alicante Provincial Council and municipal contributions.
The central themes of the plan are:
Heritage Rehabilitation:
Restoration of historic buildings such as the Casa dels Xolbi and the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum in the Casa Palacio de Antoni Banyuls.
Creation of new cultural and social spaces, enhancing the historical identity of Xàbia.
Sport and well-being for all:
Construction of the Sports Pavilion in Freginal, offering new facilities for playing sports.
Creation of a Pump Track circuit, designed for young people and families, promoting outdoor physical activity.
Sustainability and Digitalization:
Implementation of Smart Offices, improving the accessibility of municipal services.
Development of the Digital Transformation and Citizen Participation Strategy, facilitating access to municipal services and promoting more efficient and sustainable management.
Nature and culture as a driving force of identity:
Regeneration of the Montaner Park, with improved green spaces for the enjoyment of residents.
Creation of a sociocultural programme, promoting culture and sustainable tourism.
The approval of this plan represents a step forward in the municipal strategy to attract European funding and ensure that Xàbia continues to evolve towards a sustainable, digitalised and accessible city model.
Xàbia Council is confident that this project will be positively valued in the call for European FEDER-EDIL funds, as it meets the main funding criteria:
- Regeneration of the urban fabric and enhancement of heritage.
- Improvements in sustainability and urban regeneration.
- Boosting digitalisation and smart administration.
- Promotion of social cohesion and citizen well-being.
Mayor Rosa Cardona has expressed her satisfaction with the approval of the plan and has highlighted its importance for the future of the municipality: “With ‘ImpulXàbia: Arrels de Futur’ we want to respect our past and build a more sustainable, inclusive and connected future for all our residents. This project reflects the Council’s commitment to a development model that prioritizes people, heritage and the environment“.
