VOLUNTEERS COLLECT 137 KILOS OF RUBBISH FROM RIVER BED
The day formed part of the council’s pledge to organise regular cleaning days in Xàbia.
About thirty volunteers participated last Saturday in the DAY AGAINST LITTERING organized by the Department of the Environment, the Libera project and Seobirdlife with the collaboration of TETMA (responsible for waste collection and street cleaning in Xàbia) and the volunteer group “Jávea, te quiero limpia”, the Red Cross of Xàbia, and the municipal water company AMJASA.
Focusing on three sections of the Gorgos riverbed (from the Pont del Llavador to the Vía Augusta bridge), the volunteers removed a total of 137 kilos of waste, which included 27kg of packaging, 14.5 kg of paper and cardboard, 19kg of glass remains and another 77 kg of other types of waste.
The councilor responsible for the Environment, Juanlu Cardona (PP), thanked the work of all these volunteers as well as the company responsible for collecting the waste, which was responsible for giving it proper treatment.
Cardona stressed that since he entered the department, one of the objectives he set was to organise regular cleaning days for the different natural spaces of Xàbia “to raise awareness throughout the year of the importance of taking care of them and so that we can leave them to future generations as they are and how our grandparents left it to us.”
