According to the results of surveys published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) this week, the Comunidad Valencia welcomed a total of 1,472,421 international tourists during the month of August, 15.7% more than last year, who spent a total of 2,116 million euros, 26.1% more than in 2023.

The figures were derived from data provided by FRONTUR, which provides statistics on the movement of tourists on the border, and EGATUR, which provides statistics on spending by international tourists.

The regional tourism minister, Nuria Montes, described the results as ‘extraordinary’ which continue to corroborate the growth trend of foreign tourism in recent months and stressed that “we are the national destination with the greatest growth recorded both in number of arrivals and in tourist expenditure, not only in the month of August but in the accumulated total of the whole year 2024”.

She explained that “during the first eight months of the year, visits by foreigners to the Comunidad Valenciana have increased by 17.4% to 8.25 million tourists, who have spent 10.6 million euros, 25.9% more than in 2023”, adding that these are “record figures never before recorded in our region and which even exceed the results of 2019, a key year in the tourist boom”.

August Results

The results of the survey show that, on average, each international tourist who visited the Comunidad Valenciana spent 140 euros per day during August, 8.81% more than the same month of the previous year, and stayed 10.3 days in the destination. In total, the average expenditure per person was 1,437 euros, 9% more than in August of the previous year.

The results also show that during the eighth month of the year, considered the busiest month for tourists in the summer season, airport arrivals grew by 21.6%. Specifically, at Alicante-Elche airport they rose by 24.7% and at Valencia airport foreign arrivals increased by 18.9%. Those who arrived by road increased by 4.8%.
