The president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Ximo Puig, has announced that the regional government will provide aid for hotels, small businesses and establishments that have to undertake actions to adapt to the royal decree on energy saving measures as well as financial support for the most disadvantaged families who are finding it difficult to make ends meet due to the increase in the price of the shopping basket and the cost of electricity.

The president appeared before the media after a meeting held at the Palau de la Generalitat with the president of the Business Confederation of the Comunidad Valenciana (CEV), Salvador Navarro; the general secretary of CCOO-PV, Ana García, and the general secretary of UGT-PV, Ismael Sáez, during which these actions were addressed. Also in attendance in the meeting were the Minister of Finance and the Economic Model, Arcadi España, the Minister of Sustainable Economy, Productive Sectors, Commerce and Labor, Rafa Climent, and the General Director of Social Dialogue Coordination, Zulima Pérez.

The president explained that there will be financial aid as well as direct aid for hotels, small businesses and establishments that need to undertake actions to adapt to the royal decree, such as automatic door closing and temperature control. In addition, there will be financial support for those families who have serious difficulties in coping with the increase in the cost of living.

Comprehensive Post-Fire Recovery Plans

The president also explained that comprehensive recovery plans will also offered to the regions affected by the fires this summer, which will go beyond reforestation actions in Alto Palancia and Marina Baixa to also cover structural measures that allow the economic and social recovery of these areas. He explained that these plans will be in line with the PLAN VEGA REHANCE approved for the Vega Baja region after the 2019 storms.

He explained that the regional government will hold an extraordinary plenary session to approve the first aid for these regions and to analyze the scope of these comprehensive plans and stressed that the people who live in those municipalities affected by the fire “should know that the Generalitat is not going to forget them”.

The president also announced that, as a result of the meeting with social groups, it was agreed to hold a Social Dialogue Table meeting in September to take stock and evaluate the plans agreed with unions and businesses, and specifically the PLAN RESISTIR, to analyze the proposals that arise from the social dialogue to incorporate them into the Budget of the Generalitat Valenciana for 2023 and address measures related to the energy crisis.

On this last aspect, Puig stressed that the Generalitat Valenciana has allocated a total of 152 million euros since 2016 in subsidies to companies to improve energy efficiency that have generated an indirect investment of more than 500 million euros, which “says a lot of the Valencian companies and the capacity of the Valencian region to anticipate processes”.

The president added that the Generalitat Valenciana is executing an ambitious energy efficiency plan which will be endowed with 53 million euros and which is linked to actions in public buildings financed with Next Generation EU funds. As an example, he highlighted that 10 million euros are contemplated to promote actions in the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias de València that will allow a saving of more than 30 percent in energy expenditure.
