The president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Ximo Puig, has announced that the regional government will be opening four spaces for mass vaccination against COVID-19, a process that is scheduled to begin in April, when the arrival of doses increases.

Puig has made this announcement after the COVID-19 vaccination coordination meeting, which was held online this Saturday, and in which the vice president of the regional government and Minister of Equality and Inclusive Policies, Mónica Oltra, the Minister for Universal Health and Public Health, Ana Barceló, and senior officials and technicians from the Department of Health participated.

Regarding mass vaccination spaces, the president explained that there will be a centre for each provincial capital, as well as another in Elche. Specifically, the facilities of the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències, in Valencia; the Ciudad de la Luz, in Alicante; the Palacio de Congresos in Castelló de la Plana; and the Institución Ferial Alicantina (IFA), in Elche.

In addition, the president said that for the mass vaccination phase there will be the field hospitals of Valencia, Alicante and Castelló de la Plana, and that at least one reference space per comarca (such as the Marina Alta) will also be set up. He has assured that free transport will be offered to travel to these centres.

Facilities that will be set up for mass vaccination will have three separate areas: a reception and triage area, another for the administration of vaccines, and a post-vaccination space where people will stay for about 20 minutes.

The president explained that having facilities to immunize the population apart from health centres, except for exceptions such as sparsely populated areas, “will make it easier for ordinary health services to continue to function normally.

Finally, Puig has pointed out that, as is already happening with the vaccination of the population over 90 years of age, as coverage is extended to more age groups, Ministry of Health officials will make contact, through of SMS or a phone call, to advise of the place, day and time to receive the dose.
