The region received more than 3 million foreign tourists during the first four months of 2024, up 22% on the same period last year.
During the first four month of the year, the Comunidad Valenciana received more than 3 million foreign tourists, up 22% on the same period last year, visitors to the region who spent more than 3.7 billion euros during their stay, up more than 28% more than in 2023. This is according to the results of a survey published this week by the Office for National Statistics in Spain (INE), data provided by FRONTUR and EGATUR.
The regional secretary for Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Nuria Montes, announced that “the Comunidad Valenciana has once again registered very positive data in the tourism sector for the first four months of 2024” and emphasized the growth in tourist spending in the same period which she regarded as “the most relevant data” to the region which “doesn’t just count the number of tourists but considers their spending”.
She explained that, between January and April 2024, “international tourists spent more than 3.7 billion euros, an increase of 28% on the first four months of 2023”, adding that “this is truly important data because it consolidates higher quality tourism, one which generates wealth and creates employment and tax generation as well as income, an important economic balance for the Comunidad Valenciana”.
The British market contributed a total of 835.7 million euros to the Valencian economy over the first four months of this year, almost 37% more than the same period in 2023 whilst French tourists spent 439 million euros, an increase of over 45%. Tourists from the Nordic region contributed 397.4 million euros, up 17.9%, whilst German visitors spend more than 300 million euros, an increase of 51%.
With regards to the domestic market, Montes explained that “the Comunidad Valenciana has higher figures in both the number of tourists and the average spend, an increase of 28% on 2023, above the national average increase of 22%.
The regional secretary added that the increase in both visitor numbers and tourist spending is due to “work on a strategy for sustainability” and about “knowing about what tourism we want to attract to the Comunidad Valenciana”.
