Last year the filaes recycled about 2,900kg of glass, an average of 7kg per person

The Department of Fiestas and the Junta Central de Moros i Cristians de Xàbia have got together with the Department of Services to help promote the Ecovidrio campaign “La Reconquista del Vidro”.

The initiative aims to highlight the importance of selectively separating glass packaging amongst the residents of Xàbia and particularly amongst the troops of the Moors and Christians during the festivities in the port which kicked off last weekend.

On Wednesday 17th July, environmental advisors from Ecovidrio will be visiting all the groups to encourage them to recycle glass and each one will be given a suitable gift. The following day, Thursday 18th July, ‘selfie points’ will be installed in Avenida Jaume I and Calle Manuel Bordes Valles where a personalised campaign minigloo will be up for grabs for all those who participate by taking a photograph and uploading to the social networks using the hashtag #LaReconquistaDelVidrio and tagging the Ayuntamiento de Jávea. All participants will also be given a gift for taking part.

Thirty municipalities across the Comunidad Valenciana are taking part in the campaign “La Reconquista del Vidro” and will be competing to be the town which is most involved in the recycling of glass during the fiestas as well as the promotion of the campaign itself.

There are three categories in the competition according to the number of people taking part in the participating fiestas – Atabales (more than 2,500 people), Darbukas (between 1,000 and 2,500 people) and Dolçaines (less than 1,000 people) – and the winners of each will receive a trophy from the campaign organisers which will acknowledge them as the town which has recycled the most effectively during the campaign. Xàbia will be participating in the Dolçaines category.

All the participating filaes that correctly recycle their glass waste will be entered into a draw to win an exclusive glass container. The winners in 2023 was Filà Trabuquers. Last year, the groups collectively recycled about 2,900 kilograms of glass, equivalent to an average of about 7 kilograms per person. This year, Ecovidrio has distributed a total of nine collection containers through the Duanes de la Mar neighbourhood.

To support the campaign, there is a website www.lareconquistadelvidrio.es where a quiz about glass recycling and the Moors & Christians fiestas can be found and those who participate and the answer the questions correctly will qualify to win an exclusive ‘La Reconquista del Vidrio’ minigloo.
