The Municipal Archive of Xàbia digitizes part of its newspaper archive
More than 6,300 press clipping about Xàbia have been digitized with the help of Alicante.
The Municipal Archive of Xàbia has digitized part of its extensive newspaper archive that preserves the history of the municipality, an initiative that was possible with the financial assistance of the Alicante Provincial Council to the tune of almost 3,000 euros.
A total of 6,329 images of press clippings have been made from the newspapers Información (from 1987 to 1994 featuring only news from Xàbia), El Progreso (from 1884 to 1886) and La Razón (from 1931), the latter two forming part of the collection owned by Fundación CIRNE.
The initiative was possible due to funding assistance of 2,995.96 euros from the Alicante Provincial Council as part of the campaign to promote the digitization of municipal document collections held by local archives in municipalities in Alicante with populations up to 30,000.
The Municipal Archive confirmed that the digitization of the documents will allow the preservation of the originals due to the creation of copies for consultation as well as better online availability of newspaper and magazine articles related to Xàbia.
