Teresa Salgueiro headlines Xàbia Folk 2023 which will have a large presence of Valencian musicians

Xàbia Folk has confirmed its line-up for the 2023 edition, which will be held from May 5th to 7th and which will feature the international figure of the Portuguese singer Teresa Salgueiro, voice of the prestigious Madredeus formation.

The artistic directors of the festival, Joan Buigues and Toni Torregrosa, detailed the performances of this veteran event, which has the sponsorship of the Department of Culture and the collaboration of La Romàntica del Saladar.

However, the first concert which will serve as the festival presentation to the public, will be this Friday 21st April at 8.00pm in the Casa de Cultura in Plaça del Baix in the heart of the historic centre. Marta Margaix will offer her show “El Violí Valencià” based on traditional and popular Valencian music and in which singing, dancing and the violin come together with the support of looping technology.

As for the festival itself, it will take place across the weekend of May 5th to 7th with two large concerts in the marquee that will be erected on the Plaza de la Constitución, a performance at the Casa de Cultura and a final intimate concert inside the chapel of Santa Llúcia on top of the hill which overlooks the town.

TERESA SALGUEIRO

Portuguese signer Teresa Salgueiro will be kicking off the weekend with a performance of her latest project “Dentro del Silencio“. A benchmark for Portuguese folk music and the lead singer of the prestigious “Madredeus” music ensemble for twenty years between 1987 and 2007, Salgueiro treasures more than 30 years of professional career and a thousand concerts in the some of the best venues across the world.

Saturday 6th May, 7.00pm – Casa de Cultura

CATI PLANA & PAU PUIG

Accordion player Cati Plana will be joined by Pau Puig, playing the dulzaina and bansuri, an ancient flute originating from the Indian subcontinent, to present their work “Tretze Vares“.

Saturday 6th May, 10.30pm – Plaza de la Constitución

NOÈLIA LLORENS “TITANA”

Noèlia is an example of the new generation of singers who will offer a selection of new and popular songs with arrangements by producer Pau Cháfer.

Sunday 7th May, 12.00pm – Ermita de Santa Llúcia

The XXI edition of the Xàbia Folk will close with a history of Valencian music offered by Artur Blasco (voice accordion and rabequet) who will perform in a duet with the violinist Marién de Casimiro in an intimate concert inside the chapel of Santa Llúcia.

All concerts will be open and free of charge.

The promoters pointed out that this year’s line-up fulfills the usual themes of the contest by combining the new values of folk music with references at an international level and local culture, as well as enhancing the presence of female creators.

The artistic directors of Xàbia Folk thanked the local council for its continued support for more than two decades and the total freedom to program.

Both the councilor for Culture, Quico Moragues, and the mayor, José Chulvi, invited the population to enjoy this year’s edition and thanked the hard work and sensitivity with which Buigues and Torregrosa have supported the musical part of the festival as well as the musicians of La Romantica del Salader for their stewardship and support to all the groups that have passed through the Xàbia Folk stage.
