STREET LIGHTING IMPROVEMENT WORK SET TO BEGIN EARLY 2024
The project will cost around 600,000 euros and will be carried out in stages across the municipality.
Work to improvement street lighting across Xàbia, including the urbanisations, is set to begin as early as January 2024, a project for which around 600,000 euros will be invested by the local council.
The Alicante-based company IMESAPI won the contract after a long tender process and will be responsible for updating the street lighting network in many places across the municipality as well as installing new lighting systems in urbanisations which have been devoid of adequate illumination for years.
Eight companies specializing in public services submitted their proposals to Xàbia, one of which withdrew after it was determined by council technicians that its investment would not be enough to complete the project satisfactorily, the town hall perhaps finally learning that the lowest bidder doesn’t necessarily offer the best option.
The council technicians spent several months assessing the remaining proposals, some of which were equally “economical”, until it was announced earlier this month that EMESAPI had submitted the most attractive offer to complete the project for around 600,000 euros, some 250,000 euros less than the estimated budget of 850,000 euros.
The project will involve the installation of new streetlights where they are required as well as update those in the urbanisations, long demanded by residents. The work will be carried out in stages and will include the following residential areas: Rafalet, Montgó-Castellans (Nova Xàbia), Montes de Jávea, Pi Ver, Cansalades Umbria, Covatelles (Camí Vell de Teulada), Carretera de Dénia – Les Planes, Calle Jean Genet and Calle Rosalía de Castro (Lluca), Calle Cannes, Calle Saint Tropez and Avenida Llibertat (Arenal), Sector Roig Roquetes – Ctra. Cabo La Nao – Pla, Avenida Marina Española and Travesía Cansalades (zona Tossalet 5).
In addition, work will be carried to address long-standing demands such as the roundabouts of Tosalet/Carretera del Portitxol, Avenida Amanecer (Viveros Chorro), and Plaça de Joanot Martorell/Avenida Amanecer as well as the dog park located in Pou de Moro.
