The Diputación de Alicante has taken a Solomonic decision in order to guarantee the safety of pedestrians on the Portitxol road and has applied a reduction in the maximum speed allowed to 30kph in the section between the roundabout on Carretera del Pla/Camí Cabanes and that on Carretera de la Guardia, next to the Saladar supermarket.
This decision was ordered at the end of last month by technicians from the Provincial Highway Department when they verified that it was unfeasible to carry out their proposals for improving road safety with the proposals of the town hall. The work was executed in less than a week and with several bank holidays in between.
In fact, the section already displays signs of 30 kilometers per hour in both lanes and a yellow painted sign on the road surface. Likewise, new vertical signs have been installed that warn of the presence of pedestrians on the edge of the road, which has no pavement. Depending on the results of this solution, the Diputación may apply other measures, such as the installation of speed bumps.
