Specsavers Ópticas in Javea will be collecting non-perishable food items, toiletries and household products throughout the holiday period for Caritas Parroquial in Javea. The store is supporting this worthy cause to help them meet an increase in demand and ensure that no one in Javea goes hungry this Christmas.

Donations should be non-perishable food items, toiletries and household products which are essential day-to-day items that no one should be without. The items that are particularly in demand are milk, breakfast cereal for children, tinned tuna, oil, rice, laundry detergent and nappies. Over the festive period, they also give special bags with Christmas products such as sweets, turron and items which will make the families enjoy the holidays to the full, so they welcome these donations too.

Caritas is currently supporting 334 families in Javea by providing food each month and helping them with their individual needs, such as clothing, housing costs etc. They also run workshops to help people gain the skills they need to find work, and get out of the difficult situation that they find themselves in. They are concerned by the number of families who don’t have enough to give their children something to take to school to eat, or buy them warm clothes and they are trying their best to support these families as much as they can. However, they rely on donations to be able to undertake this important work and look to businesses and individuals to help them.

Specsavers Ópticas in Javea signed an agreement with their local Caritas branch in July to donate one pair of glasses every month so that Caritas can allocate them to families who really need them. During the festive period they are adding more support and collecting food donations in store, to boost their food collection during this important time. There will be food collection boxes in store throughout the holidays, until the 5th of January.

Cecilia Navarro, store director from Specsavers Ópticas in Javea explains: “Christmas is a traditional time to give to others, so we’d love it if our customers and local residents could pick up a few extra items in their weekly shop and drop it off in store. If everyone gives just a little it will make a big difference to more than 330 families who rely on Caritas in Javea.”

Maria Jose Costa, representative of Caritas Parroquial in Javea commented: “We have seen a significant increase in people coming to Caritas for help over the last few years. Since the COVID pandemic started the need has been greater and with the war in Ukraine we’ve had to help even more people. Now, with the increase in prices of basic items and living costs, we have even more people knocking on our door and asking for help. We’d like to thank Specsavers Ópticas in Javea for collecting food for us and also providing glasses, it really helps our families. We hope that local residents will drop their items into store and help us to feed more families this Christmas.”

Specsavers Ópticas in Javea are also collecting money for the Red Cross Ukraine campaign and A.P.A.D. (Asociación Protectora de Animales de Denia). You can make a donation in store at Avenida Del Pla 125, Edificio Caribe, Local 6, Jávea – just off the Carretera Cabo la Nao-Pla, near Servicolor. Visit www.specsavers.es to find out more.
