Socialist opposition requests answers over status of municipal swimming pool
José Chulvi, the socialist spokesman, has stated that “the government has not yet provided any valid or reasonable reason for not opening a facility that has already been received.”

After months of unsuccessfully asking for reports to be shown and the reasons to be given for not opening a facility that has cost more than 6 million euros, the socialist opposition PSPV-PSOE has called on the local government to urgently debate the issue in public.
In the wake of the war of words over the initiative to provide affordable housing in Xàbia, the socialists have turned their attention on the status of the municipal swimming pool which remains closed to the public after its completion.
A statement from the socialists read:
“The purpose of [demanding an extraordinary plenary session] is that the municipal swimming pool has already been handed over to the town hall and nothing now justifies the delay of almost a year to opening its doors.
“There were initially some alleged leaks that nobody could explain, then a couple of showers that didn’t drain properly. But we still don’t know the real reason why the local government is unable to open the pool to the people of Xàbia. Furthermore, we have encountered numerous delays, secrecy, and half-truths every time we have asked for documentation. Therefore, as the majority group on the local council, we have decided to force a public debate in the form of an extraordinary plenary session.
“It should be remembered that the pool was an unfulfilled promise to the people of Xàbia by PP governments since 2007. It was only with the arrival of Ximo Puig at the head of the Generalitat Valenciana and José Chulvi as mayor that this important infrastructure could be built. The serious matter is that the municipal swimming pool still has not opened and the manner of management has not been clarified (which the previous government team, with Alberto Tur as the head of Department of Sports, left prepared). The months and the period of guarantee for the work are going by and the local residents are still unable to enjoy it. Lack of use will cause the facilities to deteriorate.”
The local government tripartite, led by mayor Rosa Cardona of the Partido Popular, has yet to give a response.
