The regional health secretary, Ana Barceló, joined with her counterparts at Education, Vicent Marzà, and Universities, Carolina Pascual, to report that the school year will resume as planned this Monday 10th January, with 100% attendance expected at all educational levels.
They made the statement after a joint meeting of the Interterritorial National Health Council, the Sectoral Education Conference and the General Conference on University Policy, during which a request was delivered to update the COVID-19 case management protocol in classrooms which would be adapted to the current situation of the pandemic before teaching resumes next Monday.
Ana Barceló reported that “next week the vaccination of school age children between 5 and 8 years old will be resumed, as well as those between 9 and 11 years old who could not be vaccinated before Christmas“.
She stressed that “the percentage of vaccination of this age group in the Comunidad Valenciana is higher than the national average“, adding that the educational personnel who received a double dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine are receiving a booster dose during this week.
Vicent Marzà explained that “presence is necessary, not only from the pedagogical point of view but also from the public health point of view, since educational centers are safe spaces for students, thanks to prevention protocols and vaccination campaigns“.
Carolina Pascual has ensured that she will maintain coordination with the deans of the universities to assess the evolution of the pandemic in the classrooms and ensure that all security measures such as distance and capacity control are met to prevent infections.
The regional secretaries thanked both the teachers and the rest of the staff of the educational and university centres, as well as the families, the students and the health personnel for “the great job” they are doing to make the classrooms safe spaces, thanks compliance with the protocols.
