Protección Civil receives council funding to replace fire fighting equipment

Some 16,000 euros have been invested to replace equipment damaged in recent fires in Xàbia.

The Department of Citizen Security and Emergencies in Xabia has provided the necessary funding to replace the fire fighting equipment used by the volunteers of the Protección Civil Xàbia in the two large fires that broke out at the beginning of the season.

The council has invested around 16,000 euros to purchase new helmets, torches, boots and safety goggles as well as 25 new hoses, five specialist lances (devices which are used to spray water on the flames) and three backpacks.

The responsible councillor, Juan Ortolá (CPJ), confirmed the commitment of the local government to the volunteer group, which he said has been proved by the provision of funding to buy new equipment and provide them with “the best means for their own safety while they face fires”.

He explained that, after the fires of Barranc de l’Hedra and Montgó, the volunteer group had considered it necessary to renew the fire-fighting equipment to face the summer season with guarantees that it can fight any outbreak with the best equipment, so the council stepped in to provide the investment to do so.
