Universitat d’Alacant 2-1 CD Jávea

For CD Jávea, it was that could not be lost. But, with a huge gap to make up on the top two in the final four games, it was a slim hope that this year might be the one, a chance for promotion to play at the national level for the first time for more than a quarter than a century. The pandemic, a growing list of injuries, delayed signings, even suspensions; they’ve all played their part in scuppering that hope.

Both sides played out the first half by claiming a goal each, Jorge Martinez putting the student side ahead after 23 minutes before Obele cancelled it out with his seventh goal of the season.

Jávea dominated the second-half, given a boost when the home side were reduced to ten men after Daniel Perez was dismissed after receiving his second caution of the game. The rojiblancos has a succession of clear chances to go ahead through Javi Hernandez, Jorrín and Álvaro, finding away through a home defence that tried to shut up shop after the dismissal.

And then, just minutes from the end of the game, CD Jávea’s aspirations were shattered by a late goal from substitute Blaise Riley-Snow which eased Universitat d’Alacant’s relegation worries. In the aftermatch, substitute Jorrín was sent off with a straight red, an unfortunate part of a disappointing final result.
