PRIMARY SCHOOLS COME TOGETHER TO COORDINATE RETURN TO SCHOOL
The Ministry of Education has allocated 100,000 euros and increased staffing levels to face the new school year.
2020-09-02 MS | Mayor José Chulvi and councillor Montse Villaverde have held a coordination meeting with the management teams of the public and private primary schools in Xàbia to unify the criteria for the re-opening of the centres for the new school year in the face of the continuing COVID-19 health crisis.
The mayor thanked the management and all the teaching staff in general for their work, particularly since the beginning of the pandemic when they had to re-invent the way that students in Xàbia could be taught so that they could continue their education through online video conferencing platforms.
The Department of Education worked closely with the schools to assist in this different way of teaching to ensure that no-one was left behind by acquiring several tablet devices and establishing WiFi connections so that even the most vulnerable students could continue their education. The Local Police of Xàbia also joined in by taking homework to the homes of the children.
During the summer, the Municipal Department of Services has worked hard to prepare all the education centres with different adaption and repair works, assigning each centre with a dedicated brigade formed from the components of the Council’s social employment plan which have always been on hand to provide a service whenever and wherever it has been needed. Municipal investment has increased by more than 300% compared to previous years with spending on hygiene and cleaning measures amounting to 90,000 euros alone.
In addition, the Regional Ministry of Education has provided the schools in Xàbia with more teachers, increasing the staffing levels by 17.5, whilst it has allocated some 59,050 euros for extra expenses caused by the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis as well as 40,224 euros for extracrurricular activities.
The directors have expressed their gratitude to those responsible and can face the complicated return to school with respect but without the fear, for they have been preparing for this moment since July and they know how to deal with this extraordinary situation.
