The local branch of Podemos has released a statement in which it criticizes the approval of the 17% reduction in charge for IBI – property tax – in Xàbia in 2022, a decision that will be result in a discount of up to 80 euros, according to local government calculations.

The social populists have aligned themselves with the arguments presented by Compromís during the last plenary session and have claimed that an opportunity has been wasted to invest the 3 million euros that will otherwise have been collected towards “sustainable and structural” projects. It also adds that the reduction is “a comfortable and easy patch that benefits most those who have the most”.

The statement also pointed out that there are many ways to use the money better, such as making necessary investments in mobility, renewable energy, or a notable reduction in housing costs for the people who need it the most.

They have gone further by calling for the return of a project that the PSPV socialists proposed during previous legislatures – when they were in opposition – such as the creation of a biomass plant to reduce the volume of solid waste and would allow a service to be provided to almost 1,000 households as well as creating skilled jobs.

The statement concluded: “Wouldn’t this be better than saving homeowners 78 euros and costing our municipality 3 million euros year after year after year?”
