This week, Xàbia Council has been handed back Parque Reina Sofia de Thiviers and the new children’s playground which had been delayed after the initial project was started in October 2021. The renovation of this open space in the middle of the Thiviers neighbourhood has been a priority for the local government and mayor Rosa Cardona, who took on the responsibility to complete the project when her party took control of the town hall in June 2023, has expressed her satisfaction at the opening of this long-awaited space.

The renovated square has been provided with a new recreational area, the design of which was chosen by the Children’s Council. The youngsters were provided the opportunity to select the features of this new playground and chose a pirate ship, a large slide, a tipi carousel, a spinner bowl, and combi swing, and a climbing area.

In addition, the whole square has been updated with new tables and chairs for playing chess and Parchís and a bio-healthy exercise area aimed at people over the age of 14 with equipment such as rowing machines and parallel bars designed with the objective of improving the health and mobility of its users.

The mayor confirmed that an opening party would soon be organised so that the youngest members of the community – as well as the oldest – can enjoy and celebrate this new leisure space. “We want all the boys and girls of Xàbia to be filled with joy in this new park, although this week we have not been able to hold the party due to the inclement weather and the yellow alert. However, they will soon be able to enjoy a great celebration.”
