The Regional Ministry of Health has referred 1,288 patients to be admitted to the private hospitals of the Comunidad Valenciana during the third wave of the pandemic to alleviate pressure on the hospitals in the region.

By provinces, public hospitals in Valencia have referred 704 patients, in Castellón 68 patients have been referred and in the province of Alicante 516 patients have been admitted to one of the private centres.

During the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, and as part of the collaboration between the Ministry of Health and private health centres, surgical activity has been reduced to allow all existing health resources in the Comunidad Valenciana to be able to attend to the demands during the pandemic.

Now, pressure on the healthcare system reduces as the COVID-19 situation improves, the Ministry of Health has informed private hospitals to progressively resume their activity, always respecting a series of healthcare parameters that allow maintaining caution and being prepared at all times in the event of a possible increase in cases or an increase in hospital care pressure.

Availability of hospital beds in 72 hours

Given the importance of having all the healthcare resources available to attend to the population depending on the evolution of the pandemic, the Ministry of Health has informed private centres of the need to guarantee the availability of conventional hospital beds within a 72 hour window.

Private health centers will have to maintain the availability of ICU beds in case they are necessary, since a single district system is established for the transfer of patients that is coordinated by the Emergency Information and Coordination Center (CICU) . The transfer is carried out mainly of non-COVID patients and the assignment is by geographical proximity.

In addition, they must continue to maintain two different circuits for COVID and non-COVID patients, and visits should not be allowed for hospitalized patients, except if they are dependent or minor patients.

Finally, the hospitals of the public health system have begun to recover spaces that had been allocated to patient care, and surgical procedures are being resumed in order to return to normal care as soon as possible.
