NEW YEAR’S SWIM RAISES 3,000 EUROS PLUS FOR CHARITY
Organisers will update the amount raised once all the coins have been counted.
The traditional New Year’s Day Charity Swim attracted another huge turnout on the Arenal beach and, whilst the organisers are still counting the masses of coins gathered from the beach collection and waiting for more sponsorship money to arrive, it is clear that more than 3,000 euros has been donated.
Organisers Stephen and Christine from The Lancashire Bruja posted an update on the bar’s social media and thanked everyone who donated, sponsored and jumped into the sea, calling it “a day full of fun, wacky costumes and just pure joy” which was also attended by mayoress Rosa Cardona and councillors José Marcos Pons (Vox-Tourism) and Toni Molina (PP-Resident Relations). The couple was also interviewed by Spanish TV.
They listed several of their sponsored swimmers, including Stephen (Boss Man); Helen Bell (aka Batwoman); Mal Thomas (who was given a whopping 1000€ from the RoundAbout Charity Shop); Lisa, Cherise & Mia; the “UK Family” (they didn’t catch their names); Linda, Elaine, Lindy & Angela (the Pink Butterflies); Kate & Callum (La Casa de Papel / Money Heist), Jan Parker, the Spanish Family from Alcoi and Maria Haynes from Ontinyent.
The organisers added that the full amount raised, which will be donated to Cruz Roja de Xàbia and MarinaTEA Association for children with Autism, will be updated as soon as their “little helper elves” have counted all the coins.
