New Sports Council proposed for clubs and associations in Xàbia
The consultative and participatory body will be a voice for sports clubs and associations in the municipality.

Councillor Alberto Tur (Sports) has presented details of the creation of a Municipal Sports Council, a new consultative and participation body in which he wants to channel all the voices involved in the local sports community in participating in the planning and promotion of sports and physical activity in Xàbia.
The document has been provided to all political parties and interested parties can also read the proposal online on the municipal website (see link below) as part of the public consultation phase. Once this procedure has been completed and comments and suggestions evaluated, it will be debated in a future plenary session.
Tur explained that it is the intention of the proposed Sports Council to create a point of contact between all the representative of the local sports community as well as strengthen their relationship with the municipal government. The forum aims to bring together the different visions, expectations, desires, and aspirations related to sport, as well as the different opinions that may arise from the projects proposed by the Department of Sports.
Amongst the functions included in the regulations of the Sports Council are the basis ones that cover its representative character and advisory function, as well as support the adaption of the council’s sports policy to the interests of the citizens of the town, encourage participation with debates, and even their involvement in the development of strategic plans or municipal actions from the sports facilities themselves, such as the programmes that are organised.
The councillor wanted the project to open up the council to the true protagonists, to take advantage of the potential of sports in Xàbia with its large number of clubs with many initiatives, as well as an environment that allows the practice of countless of different sports disciplines.
During the Culture and Sport Committee Meeting held today, the councillor also provided a report of the maintenance tasks that have been carried out in the municipal sports facilities recently, especially over the past few weeks when they have been closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
