This month, TETMA, the company responsible for rubbish collection and street cleaning, will be meeting the first quarter demands for the complete provision of the two services in Xàbia, meeting the latest deadline in the process of the implementation of all the improvements demanded by the contract.

One of these demands is the replacement of all rubbish collection containers and litter bins across the municipality, a total of 1,670 units – 1,040 containers and 630 bins – which have already started arriving in Xàbia, currently stored on a plot next to the municipal sports complex in Freginal from where the new yellow, grey and blue containers will be deployed after the contactors label them appropriately, including the logos of both TETMA and the Ayuntamiento de Xàbia.

In addition, TETMA has hired three environmental educators who will improve awareness on the importance of recycling, especially now that a fifth container will be deployed which with separate organic waste from the rest of the rubbish. During the last plenary session, the opposition requested transparency for this hiring process for which the local government handed over responsibility to the contracted company, although the specifications in the contract made it clear that the local council would have the last word on all hiring of personnel, whether they be educators or road sweepers.

It was also brought up that the local government has not yet made it clear how, when, and in what way the implementation of that new fifth organic bin will be carried out, something that it has been suggested that the councillor responsible for Urbanisations should be very aware since the residents of these areas ask the same question every day. Nor it is clear how, when, and in what way the access control to the Punts Verds will be implemented, who will have access and who will not – many questions that remains unanswered for the moment.

With regards to streets cleaning, many residents have been surprised to see the municipal sweeping teams passing through the streets again – and not only in the urbanizations – something which has not been seen for many years.

Cleaning teams are appearing in the streets again.
