The Municipal Archive of Xàbia has received a very interesting donation of more than 600 documents, including letters, official personal documentation, as well as up to 400 photographs that reflect the social life in the town in the last century.
The donation was made by María Magdalena Marí Molina, who was born in 1939 and has spent all her life within the education sector in Xàbia, teaching at nursery and primary school level until her retirement in 2004. She began her career at the port school before working at the school in Portitxol, and Vicente Tena. In 1970, she joined the María Inmaculada school where she spent the rest of her career.
The Archive has thanked her for her contribution which will provide an extremely useful resource to research the history of Xàbia since it details the history of bullfighting in the town. The documents will be digitized so that they can be made available for research purposes before the collection will be returned to the owner, with the exception of those parts which she has decided to donate on a permanent basis to the archive.
Some of the photographs have been uploaded to social media networks, such as the Facebook page of the town hall, in case residents recognize some of the subjects in them or has further information about them, which will allow the archive to expand its knowledge.
To work with the Municipal Archive, interested parties can contact by email arxiu@ajxabia.org or telephone 96 650 88 27.
