Xàbia Council attracts more supporters every year for its campaign marking International Women’s Day (IWD) and its efforts to make women visible in the different fields of society. This year, the Departments of Equality, Education, Culture and Sports join the Department of Economic Development, directed by Ximo Segarra, which has scheduled the XÀBIA EMPRÉN conference for Tuesday 7th March which will give voice to three women in their presentations.
One of them is the internationally renowned mountaineer Edurne Pasabán, the first woman to scale the 14 ‘eight-thousanders’, the 14 mountains of the world that are more than 8,000 metres high including Everest, K2, Annapurna I and Gasherbrum II. She was a finalist for the 2010 Prince of Asturias Award for Sports, the 2010 National Geographic Adventurer of the Year Award and the 2010 Reina Sofía National Sports Award. Pasabán, an industrial technical engineer and master in human resources management, will offer her experiences in “EXPEDICIÓN AL ÉXITO” in which she talks about the demand, the effort and the desire to excel as unavoidable values to undertake any challenge and succeed.
The other speakers will be Germán Agulló (co-founder of GDV Mobility and the youngest CEO in history to register 1 million euros); Inés Torremocha (executive sales coach, author of the book “La vida es venta” and member of the board of directors of the National Association of Emotional Intelligence) and Loida Primo (entrepreneur, speaker and expert in Appreciative Mentoring and Coaching. Educational Excellence Awards and candidate for the Top 100 Women Leaders 2021).
Attendance at these conferences, which will take place during the afternoon of Tuesday 7th March, is free and those interested can register online HERE.
The councilor responsible for Equality, Montse Villaverde, highlighted the transversality of this year’s campaign for IWD, entitled “JUNTES” in reference to the fact that women walk together towards equality, with strength and sisterhood. It is a path that in Xàbia has worked on throughout the year from the co-educational field, with high school workshops that will now be in charge of translating into the protest action that will accompany the institutional act on Wednesday 8th March 8 at 12 noon.
The Xàbia IWD programme also includes theatre and music and, as in recent years, a lot of sport. Councilor Alberto Tur explained that the DONA I ESPORT campaign is returning to make visible leading women in different sports and, with the collaboration of the clubs, there will be self-defense workshops, a zumba class, a pilota game, the annual Non-Competitive Women’s Race and a regatta organized by the rowing club.
The mayor, José Chuvi, valued this entire joint programme, to which the Department of Culture has added a concert by the female voices from the Cor de la Generalita, and the importance of being aware that there is still a lot of work to be done to achieve effective equality and that it is necessary for all of us to get involved.
