Moors & Christians 2024 will enliven the port from July 13th to 21st
Enrique Bas Espídos, mayor of Xàbia between 1979 and 1991, will be this year’s ‘pregonero’.
Between Saturday 13th July to Sunday 21st July, Xàbia will surrender once again to the forces of the crescent and the cross for the 2024 edition of the popular Moros i Cristians de Xàbia, one of the unmissable events of the summer .
On the evening of Tuesday 25th June, with the flames of the Fogueres de Sant Joan barely extinguished, the board of the Moors & Christians in Xàbia formally presented this year’s programme and the fiesta book that accompanies the celebrations in a ceremony in the port.
Accompanied by standard bearers Lucía Serrano Osca (Moor – Filà BAHARIS) and Vanessa Garrido Astorgano (Christian- Filà FACINERS) as well as captains Txema Bengoa Fernández and Amaia Arrausi Pinedo from Filá BAHARIS, president of the board Abel Moll led the presentation of the 2024 Book and Programme, the 46th edition of this popular fiesta.
After thanking local companies for their collaboration by appearing as sponsors in the book, as well as those who have participated to make the celebrations even bigger, Abel also wanted to praise the effort and work carried out by Emilio Banyuls in producing the official fiesta book which has a circulation of 1,000 copies and has become the perfect companion to immerse the reader into the celebrations.
Aware of the graphic and visual potential of the book, the board has prioritized photographic galleries which capture the spectacular nature of the fiesta whilst the cover and poster designs are based on a painting for Xàbiero artist Miguel Sala Coll.
The contents include impressive portraits of this year’s standard bearers and captains, the full programme, a resumé of the the Mig Any (Half Year) celebrations which kick off the year’s preparations, and an extensive presentation of each of the filaes participating in the fiesta. It also include a complete visual review of last year’s edition and articles of great interest by Antonio Catalá and Vicent Ferrer, Joaquim Bolufer, Juan Legaz, José Cardona, Vicente Català and Juan Bautista Codina.
The book also recognises the person who will receive this year’s Premi Sant Jaume which honours the outstanding work of participants and their contribution to the celebrations of the Moros i Cristians de Xàbia.
In 2024, it is José Serrat Cholbi “Pepe Tomaca” from Filà TRABUQUERS who will be receiving the award. Pepe has been closely linked to the rhythm and daily life in the port area including its traditions for many years. He is also a strong defender of the fishing sector as a pillar and economic engine of Xàbia. His affable character, his total willingness and generosity, makes him a worthy winner.
