The deal will provide a significant reduction in the cost of water to the sector.

In an effort to support Xàbia’s fishing sector during a period of economic difficulty, mayor Rosa Cardona has signed a key agreement with the Xàbia Fishermen’s Guild and the municipal water company AMJASA which establishes a significant reduction in the cost of water, which represents a relief of more than half the usual cost for a sector facing the increase in raw material costs.

The agreement was signed at the town hall in the presence of Cardona, in her dual role as Mayor and councillor responsible for Agriculture and Fisheries, together with the councillor responsible for Water Distribution, José Marcos Pons. The measure seeks to offer an economic respite to local fishermen, allowing them to mitigate the impacts of increased operating costs.

Cardona explained that “it is essential for the local government in Xàbia to support our productive sectors and fishing is one of them, and this agreement reflects our commitment to fishermen who are a vital part of our local identity and economy, not only essential from an economic point of view, but also cultural and traditional for Xàbia”.

The president of the Fishermen’s Guild, Rafael Serrat Cholbi, stressed that it was a historical demand of the fishermen of Xàbia that has been finally heard and is appreciated.

Councillor Pons explained that the agreement with AMJASA not only guarantees an affordable price for water but it also strengthens the collaboration between local institutions and the fishing sector, reaffirming the commitment of the Xàbia Council to seek solutions that favour the sustainability and development of this crucial sector.
