MATCH REPORT | Crevillente Deportivo 4-0 CD Jávea

CD Jávea have finished the 2023/2024 season bottom of the pile after defeat at promotion hopefuls Crevillente Deportivo. The rojiblancos, already relegated after last week’s disappointing home defeat to Tavernes, conceded the four goals in the opening 35 minutes before the home side appeared to take their feet off the gas, having already secured a promotion play-off spot.

It’s a disappointing end to a disappointing campaign and it’s not something that CD Jávea has not been used to in recent years. The last campaign that ended in relegation was the 1994-95 season when a 3-3 home draw against CD Eldense was not enough to lift the club out of the bottom three of the Tercera División. And you have to go back to even further to the 1973-74 season when the rojiblancos finished bottom of a league table, statistically the worst campaign in its federated history with just six wins in 38 games and almost 100 goals conceded.

Next season, CD Jávea will be playing in the FFCV Primera. The recent reorganisation of the Valencian Football Federation’s regional set-up will mean it will be somewhat difficult to make an immediate return to the elite tier with only the group champions winning automatic promotion and then only the second-placed team claiming a play-off spot against the runners-up in the other three groups.

However, if head coach Julio Ivorra stays on the meet the challenge, then CD Jávea have a sound base on which to build a team which can do so.
