MATCH REPORT | CD JÁVEA 1-3 CD OLÍMPIC

The rojiblancos crash to defeat at home to CD Olímpic and remain firmly rooted in the bottom three.

MATCH REPORT

CD Jávea crashed to defeat against CD Olímpic de Xàtiva in a bad-tempered match at the Camp d’Esports Municipal. For various reasons, head coach Julio Ivorra was unable to call upon the services of David, Javi, Fran, Mario, Lautaro and Rodrigo, but the side still had a healthy mix of experience and youthful enthusiasm. Yet it often felt like ‘the world vs Jávea’ at times, especially during the second-half when a succession of poor decisions by the officials reduced the game to a scrappy and bad-tempered encounter.

The visitors went ahead on 15 minutes when they took advantage of an apparent state of confusion between goalkeeper Tonet and his defensive line just inside the six-yard which allowed Santi to slid the ball into the back of the net from the narrowest of angles. At the other end, striker Cabo had two opportunities to level the score, the first a snatched half-volley which he drove just wide of the left post whilst the second saw him smash the ball into the side-netting after some great work from Aldo down the left flank.

And then, just before half-time, the visitors doubled their advantage from the spot after being awarded a penalty after Izan was hauled down inside the area, Aaron making no mistake as he sent Tonet the wrong way to fire into the bottom right of the net.

The second half saw plenty of enthusiasm from the home side, especially from Tomás who switched from right to left and then back to the right again as he sought a way through a solid defensive line. Indeed, it was the midfielder who had the first shot of the second period when his long-range effort sailed just wide of the right post. And then a clear push of Cabo inside the area was ignored by the referee, a decision which attracted an incredulous roar from the stand.

The visitors knew that if they gave the ‘rojiblancos’ any opportunity, their lead was in danger and thus a different gameplay was brought into action, one which didn’t go down well with the home crowd, a succession of yellow cards shown to their team a result of some cynical tactics from the visitors.

Midway through the second-half, Olímpic increased their lead, Jávea’s club captain Aldo unfortunate to see his attempt to clear a low cross into box sail into the net instead. Yet the ‘rojiblancos’ kept fighting, despite the play acting of the Xativa side, and substitute Samson, making his debut for Jávea, was able to reduce the arrears with a low shot on 83 minutes.

Encouraged by the home fans, the ‘rojiblancos’ pushed on with a solid belief that this game was not yet lost. But Olímpic continued with their nonsense and it got the better of Tomás as the match moved into added time and another curious decision from the officials saw the fiesty midfielder receive a second caution and consequently his marching orders, an unfair conclusion to the match for a player who was certainly a contender for man-of-the-match.

With both CD Thader and L’Olleria CF winning, just one point separates the bottom three as they look to climb out of the relegation zone. The team from Rojales triumphed over CFI Alicante whilst L’Olleria stunned third-placed Calpe by condemning them to their first home defeat of the season.

Next weekend CD Jávea made the relative short journey down the coast to take on new league leaders CF Benidorm, who defeated CD Eldense “B” to leapfrog over the early pacesetters.
