MATCH REPORT: CD Jávea 1-1 CF Sporting de San Fulgencio
CD Jávea had to settle for a share of the spoils in a match that ended 1-1 as the heavens opened and brought a deluge to the football ground.
It was a case of two points dropped at the end of a game that CD Jávea should have wrapped up long before the heavens opened, bringing a rather wet end to an entertaining Sunday lunchtime match.
From kick-off, both sides sought to take control of the game, battling it out in midfield whilst the defensive lines took charge of trying to prise open their opposite numbers with long balls, but chances were few and far between until the 20th minute when José Cabo delivered a perfect low cross into the box which was comfortably converted into the opening goal by Lucas Destefano, his first for the club.
The second half proved to be an even livelier encounter with both sides having opportunities to pull the ball into the back of the net. First, a cross from Tomás Calvo was met by Elián but the midfielder was unable to finish the move. A few minutes, the same player saw his low shot blocked by the keeper and Joan Signes pounced on the loose ball only the crash his own shot into the back of a defender. At the other end, Matallanos saw his effort blocked by Fede before Jávea counter-attacked but Lucas could only fire wide.
In the closing minutes, as the rain began to fall, the visitors were reduced to ten men after David Alvaréz was shown his second yellow card but the disadvantage didn’t phase them and they pushed forward to force an equaliser through Josu Astondoa with minutes to go. The visitors were then down to nine men after the goalscorer himself picked up a second yellow. As the heavy rain made the conditions almost unplayable, both sides seemed to content to wait for the final whistle and to race down the tunnel to shelter as big puddles grew on the pitch surface. A share of the spoils as Jávea remain in 8th spot with 11 points.
Elsewhere in the league, joint leaders Mutxamel CF and CD El Campello carved out a 1-1 draw to remain top of the pile whilst CD Montesinos closed the gap to one point, thanks to a 2-0 win at home to bottom club CD Intercity CF “B”. The reserve side remain rock bottom with just a single point from seven games whilst Villena CF drop down to 15th thanks to a 0-3 reverse at CD Betis Florida. CF Sporting de San Fulgencio’s point against Jávea lifts them into 14th whilst CD Almoradí’s first away win of the season, a 2-1 victory at Villajoyosa CF, prises open a little breathing space above the relegation zone.
Next week, CD Jávea travel south to Novelda CF, kick-off details to be confirmed.
